A/W 18/19 Collection - Wu-Tang Sailing

Halti's outdoor heritage meets fashion in a collaborative collection with Finnish designer Rolf Ekroth. The collection was launched for the first time at Pitti Uomo Men's Fashion Fair in Florence, 9–12 January 2018.

Halti is a Finnish outdoor company with more than 40 years of experience in outdoor products and apparel. Today we design products for outdoor activities, sports and everyday use in a variety of conditions. As urban lifestyles become increasingly busy, many people value opportunities to spend time outdoors and enjoy new experiences.

Rolf Ekroth graduated in 2015 from the prestigious Aalto University in Helsinki. After graduating, he received Finland's Young Designer of the Year 2015 Award. Earlier that year, he won the international Designer's Nest prize with his second-year menswear collection. In 2016, he reached the Hyères Fashion Festival finals and later collaborated with Galeries Lafayette on a collection.

The AW18-19 collection is inspired by the summer holidays Rolf spent sailing with his parents in the Finnish archipelago during the 1990s. Those were the years when he felt too old to spend all his time with his parents on a small sailboat, yet too young to stay home alone. Music became his escape, especially rap music during the summers of 1994–1996. While listening to the first Wu-Tang Clan album through his headphones, he often wore a coat that originally belonged to his father and was far too large for him. When he returned home after one of those trips, he saw the same type of jacket worn by rappers on MTV. “This became the foundation of my collection: nineties meets sailing,” says Rolf Ekroth.
