Rolf Ekroth X Halti
A/W 18/19 Collection - Wu-Tang Sailing
Halti's outdoor heritage meets fashion in a co-lab collection with a Finnish designer Rolf Ekroth. The collection was launched for the first time in Pitti Uomo Men's Fashion Fair in Firenze 9.1.18-12.1.18.
Halti was born from one man's ambition to bring people closer to nature. We are 40-years old Finnish outdoor company and we continue this heritage by inspiring all people to experience nature at its best. Today, we live in a hyper-connected urban society. A piece of nature brings more balance to the busy and stressfull lives. We want to break boundaries and bring nature closer to the urban lifestyle.
Rolf Ekroth graduated 2015 from the prestigious Aalto University in Helsinki. After graduating, he received Finland's Young Designer of the Year 2015 Award. Earlier that year he won the international Designer's Nest prize with his second year's menswear collection. In 2016, he reached the Hyeres Fashion Festival finals and went on to collaborate on a collection with Galeries Lafayette.
The AW18-19 collection is inspired by the summer vacations Rolf spent with his parents as a teenager in nineties. They used to go each summer on long sailing trips in the Finnish archipelago. Those were the years that he was a bit too young to be left alone at home and a bit too old to hang out with his parents on a small cramped sailboat. His escape from the reality on those trips were listening music; during the '94-'96 summers especially rap music. Wu-tang listened to the first Wu Tang album through his headphones. At the time, he was wearing his father's coat that was way too big for him. When Rolf came home after the vacation, he saw on MTV that the rappers were wearing the exact same jacket. "This became the base idea for my collection, nineties meets sailing": says Rolf Ekroth.
