Halti has a history of product development for over 40 years. Since our origin in 1976 we have had the mission to connect people with nature, and it drives us strongly still today. We are based in Finland where the Nordic nature and aesthetics surround and inspire us every day. We have had the pleasure and the challenge to equip some of the most demanding climbs to the Poles, worlds top athletes as well as all outdoor enthusiasts. Our product development team has been put to test season after season and – it’s safe to say “again” – they have done it: Halti’s Gifted Women’s DrymaxX® Ski Jacket is the ISPO Award Winner 2021.
The Gifted jacket won the prestigious sporting good’s industry award in the category of snow sport. Each year the ISPO fair honors the most exceptional products with the ISPO Award. Independent and international experts are judging several hundreds of products to established criteria. Halti’s previous ISPO award-winning product was the Next Generation, 100% recyclable outdoor jacket in 2019.
The award-winner, Gifted ski jacket, is the lightest and most sustainable women’s DrymaxX® ski jacket in Halti’s history. The new innovation is a special airflow lining structure that makes the jacket surprisingly light but manages the temperature inside at the same time keeping the heat weight ratio excellent.
“We had an ambitious goal of ultimate lightness in a ski jacket and we achieved it by capturing the air in between special tunnel constructions. We filled the tunnels with airy and fuzzy wadding to make it feel soft. The air flows between the tunnels keeping the warmth inside and not having the skier to produce the warmth all the time”, explains Halti’s experienced product manager Maija Kiiski proudly.
The special air flow lining construction also transfers moisture towards outer layers and keeps the user comfortable throughout the day. You can’t see the lining construction at all from the outside of the jacket, so it looks completely sleek and stylish. The Scandinavian-style simple look makes you want to wear it also on the streets, not only at the slopes.
“We didn’t want to make any compromises in the technicality but kept sustainable production as our driving force. We used 100% recycled lining, recycled outer shell material and partly recycled wadding. We also minimized the number of easily breakable details to make the jacket last for a long time, and to make it easily recyclable”, says Kiiski letting us in on the sustainable design philosophy of the winner jacket.
Sustainability is one of the core values of Halti. Since 2010 Halti has had a sustainable development program called Think Ahead which has guided the way to ever more sustainable production. Recycled materials and long lasting quality products are in our focus. We are trying continuosly find solutions to support circularity and do our part to ensure fair working conditions in our supply chain. The jacket comes in a recycled and recyclable polybag, and the warehouse and logistic operators in Finland are carbon neutral in their own operations. The hangtags of the jacket are attached with a recycled polyester string and the Think Ahead hang tag is made from recycled cardboard. All the major technical information is printed directly into the jacket to extend the lifecycle fromfurther users’ perspective.
