2023 Halti’s Sustainability Highlights: progress and achievements
We are pleased to release the annual review of our Think Ahead sustainability program for the second consecutive year. In this review, we openly communicate our use of sustainable materials, the emissions generated by our business, and our targets for reducing them. We also cover our various initiatives to promote the circular economy, human rights, and fair working conditions. This full sustainability review is always available on the sustainability section of our website.
In 2023, we launched the Halti Second Hand platform in Finland, enabling our customers to buy and sell used products through our recycling partner Ninyes. Additionally, we introduced a quick and easy repair service for our products in collaboration with the Menddie network of tailors. We continue to accept donations of gently used Halti products at our stores in Finland, which we then donate to charity. Together, these circular economy initiatives are branded under Halti 2nd Round.
In our choice of materials, we continuously push ourselves to find more sustainable options. Please bear with us through a few percentage figures to give you an idea of the scale. In the presale of the Fall/Winter 24/25 season, 82% of products in the Halti Outdoor collection and 68% in the Halti Ski collection are made from bluesign® APPROVED shell material. In the same season, 98% of all Halti apparel items are made from partly or totally recycled material, and 60% of Halti shoes have partly or totally recycled uppers. We also report that in 2023, 32.4% of our total fabric purchase volume was bluesign® APPROVED, and 43% was recycled polyester.
Our environmental efforts include ongoing daily optimization of logistics, collaboration with our subcontractors, and ambitious goals such as joining the Science Based Targets Initiative. While our business and consequently our supply chain emissions grew in 2023, we significantly reduced air transport. With the help of WWF Green Office tools and the determination of our entire staff, we managed to reduce the emissions from our headquarters despite business growth.
Towards the end of 2023, we were honored to receive two prestigious awards. Finnish consumers voted the Halti Cyclus Unisex parka, made in collaboration with Spinnova, as the most sustainable product in Finland. Additionally, the leading international ISPO platform awarded our Kallio®️ by Halti®️ streetwear collection’s Synkas 3in1 DrymaxX jacket the ISPO Award. This monomaterial jacket, designed for easy recycling, is functional, weather-resistant, and durable, and will be available in stores in autumn 2024.
